Lose Weight by Avoiding Soda


Most people who are on a weight loss diet tend to watch everything they eat to ensure that they don’t take in more calories than they should. But what some people fail to do is to watch everything they drink. Food is not the only thing that can give you calories but so can drinks, especially high calories beverages like soda. Reducing and eliminating soda drink in your diet is actually one of the most effective ways to lose weight.
Soda, which is very high in calories and sugar, can also work up people’s appetite and make them feel more hungry than usual. Foods are especially more appetizing when paired with a bottle or can of soda, which can lead to overeating, something that people on a diet try so hard to avoid.
Getting rid of soda in your diet can be extremely difficult if you have gotten so used to having this drink in your life. If you really want to lose that unwanted weight, here are some tips on how to remove soda in your daily diet.
  1. Drink more water. Water is the best choice for quenching thirst. It is essential for proper health and normal bodily functions. Instead of drinking a can of soda, drink ice-cold water and you will find yourself not thirsting for soda anymore. It may not be easy at first but once you have gotten used to drinking 8 glasses per day, you would probably forget what it is about soda that you used to love so much.
  2. Make your own soda. If you think you cannot live without the fizz that you find so fascinating about sodas, don’t despair. The good news is you can make your own soda at home if you buy a soda siphon and soda chargers. In essence, homemade soda is healthier because you won’t be using high fructose corn syrup which is what commercial sodas are made of. You would also not include caffeine. Instead, you will use real fruit juice, which is healthier and more nutritious.
  3. Avoid storing soda at home. Out of sight means out of mind. If you are trying to get rid of soda in your life, it does not make sense to include it in the shopping list the next time you go to the grocery. Even if you vow that you are not going to drink the soda that you intend to buy and that it would only be for guests, don’t trust yourself yet. You might be tempted to drink soda and go back to your habit if you do this.
  4. Drink healthier alternatives. Other healthier beverage options include fruit juice, green tea, fruit smoothies and shake, skim milk, and low-fat dark chocolate shakes. All these drinks are also thirst quenching and filling. At the same time, they won’t take a toll on your health and your weight loss regimen.
If you are serious about losing weight, you should skip and eliminate soda in your diet. Remember, a weight loss diet should not only require you to watch everything that you eat but also everything that you drink.
